Sclerotherapy

Description of the procedure::

Sclerotherapy is performed by administering to the altered venous vessels a special preparation that causes fibrosis of the walls of blood vessels. Then, the vessel grows thick, and thus the ineffective and unsightly-looking vessels are closed, making them completely disappear after the treatment has been performed several times. After the treatment, a pressure dressing is put on.

The treatment of sclerotherapy is completely painless, safe and allows a completely non-invasive way to get rid of varicose veins and the so-called spider veins.

Post-treatment recommendations::

Immediately after the treatment, compression stockings are put on the limbs, and the patient is directed to take a walk for at least 30 minutes. During this time, the patient must not stand or sit. Pressure dressing on the leg should be kept for 3-8 days – depending on the doctor’s recommendation and should not be taken off at night and for bathing. After the treatment for 4 weeks, the lower limbs should not be warmed up. High temperatures, hot baths and sunbathing should be avoided. In case of very large varicose veins, the pressure is recommended for more than a month after the last treatment. Compression therapy is usually indicated for up to 6 months. It is recommended to walk about 1 hour every day and maintain an active lifestyle.
